One-On-One Meetings

Main Purposes

This is a space for you to get feedback, ask questions, and raise concerns. Don't view this as "reporting to your boss"—it's your time.

  • Have problems? Tell Agustinus.

  • Worried about something? Tell Agustinus.
tip

Exploit your direct access to Agustinus for your own (research, apprenticeship) advantage.

important

As a Prof, Agustinus is evaluated by his students' successes. So, he is invested in you. Even more so if you show an increased level of effort.

Possible Topics

  • Showcase progress, get feedback.
  • Feel behind in some math foundations or engineering skills? Personalized, "flipped teaching":
    • Math: You read a few subsections and do 1 or 2 problems, then present the solutions during the meeting.
    • Engineering: You implement a model/technique/algorithm, then we do a code review during the meeting.
  • Soft skill advice.
    • E.g., career planning, workload balance, etc.
  • Meta skills.
    • E.g., writing craft, presentation skills, etc.

Preparation

It's in our best interests for the meeting to be productive. So:

  • Prepare your main questions beforehand.
  • Prepare your progress summary in 1 or 2 slides.
  • Prepare your reading/solution for the flipped learning.

Agustinus' mentorship style is: high support, high expectations.
